The Cancer Center’s offerings are equal to those found in major academic medical centers. They include:
- PET/CT Exam: Used for diagnosis and staging, this procedure combines two scanning technologies to render clear, accurate information about the location of cancer and other abnormalities. See more information about PET/CT exams in Imaging.
- Radiation Oncology: Our Advanced Radiation Oncology (AROS) physicians were the first in the area to implement the revolutionary Tomotherapy, which is unprecedented in its ability to target radiation delivery to the tumor and minimize exposure to healthy tissue. They are also the most experienced in the use of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT). These physicians were also the first in the nation to use both Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Stereotactic Body Radiosurgery.
- Senoview Breast Treatment: We use the innovative Senoview, designed at Montefiore Nyack Hospital, to target breast cancer and minimize the radiation dose to healthy tissue and organs.
- High Dose Rate Brachytherapy: An alternative to traditional radiation therapy, this treatment includes a small, temporary radiation source placed into a cancerous area using computer-guided instruments. This technique can often replace weeks of traditional radiation therapy.
