November 5, 2018: Montefiore Nyack Hospital proudly recognized its 2018 Physicians of the Year honorees: Roger Frey, MD; Jonathan Jakus, MD; and Honorary Member of the Medical Staff, John Volanto, Vice President Chief Operating Officer at Montefiore Nyack Hospital, for their longtime service and dedication at a reception attended by more than 300 guests at the Hilton Pearl River.
Dr. Roger Frey has served as a Diagnostic and Interventional Radiologist at Montefiore Nyack Hospital since 1993. As a member of Hudson Valley Radiology Associates, Dr. Frey was one of the first physicians in Rockland County to perform peripheral arterial balloon angioplasty and stenting. His training and access to state-of-the-art MR angiography resulted in a successful program of renal artery stenting in patients with renovascular disease.
Dr. Jonathan Jakus joined Montefiore Nyack Hospital 40 years ago. He serves as the Medical Director of The Prenatal Center at Montefiore Nyack Hospital and Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is leader of Hudson Center for Women’s Health, one of the largest midwifery programs in the Hudson Valley. Dr. Jakus was the first to perform laparoscopic surgery at the Hospital and developed the microinvasive laparoscopic tubal sterilization procedure.
John Volanto is the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Montefiore Nyack Hospital. During John’s 17-year tenure, he was instrumental in the Hospital’s financial turnaround, system affiliation and technological transition, as well as the reorganization of operations and support services. In John’s 43-year healthcare career, he has held consulting and senior leadership roles as Chief Technology Officer and Chief Information Officer, in both private industry and healthcare systems, including McDonald Douglas Automation, Atlantic Healthcare System, and Our Lady of Mercy Healthcare System.
