September 6, 2019: Knowing how to prevent falls can help to reduce the number one cause of injury and death to older adults. Montefiore Nyack Hospital’s Departments of Trauma and Paramedicine are sponsoring a falls awareness program to identify and address factors that can lead to falls. Medical professionals will offer services such as: blood pressure screening; medication review; balance and gait education; nutrition information; diabetic education; home safety review; and community resources.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are 3 million Emergency Department visits and 800,000 hospitalizations a year attributed to falls. Annually, that is more than one in four senior adults who will fall.
Seniors, caregivers, and the public who would like to learn more about what they can do to limit the risk of falls are encouraged to attend. The event is free of charge with free parking and runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2019 in the Hospital’s Cafeteria Conference Room, 160 North Midland Avenue in Nyack, NY.
