July 21, 2016: Montefiore Nyack Hospital has appointed Robbi Kempner, MD, FACS, as Medical Director of The Breast and Women’s Health Services Center at Montefiore Nyack Hospital. In this role, Dr. Kempner will provide oversight to the breast cancer program, breast cancer research, and cancer registry, while serving on all cancer committees and tumor boards.
“Dr. Kempner has an extensive background as a leader in breast cancer care and we are very fortunate to have her join the Montefiore Nyack Hospital team,” said Montefiore Nyack Hospital Chief Medical Officer, Anthony Matejicka, DO. “She will be working closely with local physicians to ensure that residents are aware of the access they have to expert breast and women’s health services available right in their community.”
Dr. Kempner joined Montefiore Nyack Hospital from CarePoint Health System, a multi-hospital health care system and medical group based in Hudson County, NJ where she served as Medical Director of The Breast Center and Co-Director of the Cancer Program. As Director of Breast Surgery at CarePoint Health, Dr. Kempner developed a comprehensive Breast Center where she designed and implemented a new system-wide Breast Service and established a Sentinel Node Detection Program that improved patient outcomes. In 2014, she led a team of surgeons in a groundbreaking breast reconstruction surgery that used an advanced microsurgical technique to great success.
She has served as a consultant for the Institute for Microsurgical Breast Reconstruction and as an attending surgeon on staff at Beth Israel Medical Center, Mount Sinai Hospital, and Lenox Hill Hospital. Dr. Kempner served as Assistant Chief of Breast Surgery at Stamford Hospital, a New York Presbyterian affiliate. She was appointed Chief of the Division of Breast Surgery at NY Downtown Hospital, also a New York Presbyterian affiliate, where she developed, led and managed the program with a multidisciplinary team approach to care.
Dr. Kempner received her medical doctorate from New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY. She began her training with a General Surgery residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York City, followed by a surgical specialization in Breast Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY.
Dr. Kempner is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Her professional affiliations include the American Society of Breast Surgeons, Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group, and the Medical Society of New York State. She is licensed to practice medicine in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Florida.
