Our Services

Therapists in the Rehabilitation Services department at Montefiore Nyack Hospital complete comprehensive patient evaluations to determine what type of therapy is most appropriate for each patient, then develop a plan that will help that patient work toward their goals. Therapies include:

  • Occupational therapy helps restore an individual’s ability to perform activities of daily living as independently as possible. These include walking, preparing meals, writing and any activity done at work, home or school. An occupational therapist’s goal is to restore the patient’s maximum functional ability.
  • Physical therapy addresses an individual’s limitations due to pain, muscle weakness, impaired mobility and/or balance problems. A physical therapist’s goal is to increase function, endurance and strength. Patients learn techniques to maintain their renewed mobility and prevent recurring injury.
  • Speech therapy focuses on an individual’s speech and ability to swallow. For each patient, our speech therapists conduct a thorough evaluation, which may include a Video Swallow Evaluation test. The treatment plan they develop often includes speech therapy, patient and family education, and follow-up services. Speech therapists are certified by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.
