Upcoming EventsMontefiore Nyack Hospital, in partnership with LiveOnNY, hosted a registration event for Organ Donor Enrollment Day on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at which organ donor champion and heart transplant recipient, Roxanne Watson, signed up her 12,000th organ donor. This incredible milestone makes her the leader for LiveOnNY organ donor enrollments in New York State. David Rodriguez, a member of Montefiore Nyack Hospital's team, earned the distinction of being the registered organ donor to help Roxanne reach this incredible distinction. Making this achievement even more special is Roxanne is a patient of Montefiore Nyack Hospital who received her heart transplant at Montefiore Medical Center’s Moses campus in the Bronx, NY in 2010.
Organ Donor Enrollment Day is a day focused on creating awareness on the importance of organ donation so that more New Yorkers will be encouraged to take action and sign up as organ donors. One organ donor can save up to eight lives. Currently, New York has a shortage of donated organs which means those who need transplants, have longer wait times to get the help they need. Nearly 10,000 children and adults in New York are currently waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant.
