Nyack, N.Y. September 23, 2025 – Montefiore Nyack Hospital hosted a ribbon-cutting for its Radiation Oncology and PET CT Departments, which include the installation of the latest PET CT imaging equipment and Radixact Tomotherapy radiation oncology treatment technology. The newly renovated facility is designed to enhance patient comfort, experience, and outcomes.
Dr. Shalom Kalnicki, Chief Medical Officer for Cancer Services at Montefiore Einstein, addressed guests, noting that the new surroundings bring the best state-of-the-art cancer care to our communities, striking a perfect balance between technology and empathy. He applauded the dedicated team of physicists, technicians, nurses, nutritionists, psychologists, social workers, administrative personnel, and physicians who guide each patient and family caregiver through their cancer journey. His sentiment was affirmed by former patient Donna McDine, who shared her personal cancer journey, expressing gratitude for the team at Montefiore Nyack Hospital’s Cancer Center.
Radiation Oncology services at Montefiore Nyack Hospital are offered through a partnership with Montefiore Einstein's Comprehensive Cancer Center, ranked in the Top 1% of all U.S. Hospitals for cancer care by U.S. News and World Report. Individualized treatment plans are developed by a multidisciplinary team of experts, which includes radiation oncologists, oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, geneticists, medical physicists, and other specialized professionals in cancer care.
Advanced Technology
Montefiore Nyack Hospital’s Radixact Tomotherapy unit is the latest generation of technology, providing real-time, adaptable treatments that maximize the dose delivered to the tumor while minimizing the dose to healthy tissue. Its ultra-hypo fractionated treatments reduce patient sessions by as much as 80% compared to conventional radiation therapy. This technology also synchronizes with the patient and target movement, allowing for easier breathing by eliminating the need to immobilize the patient during the treatment delivery.
The addition of its new GE Omni Legend PET CT, used to detect cancer, assess blood flow, or evaluate the function of an organ, reduces scan time and injectable isotopes by up to 30%. Cardiac, Neurologic, Oncologic, and Urologic studies are performed at the Hospital’s Cancer Center.
